August gardening: First cucumber harvest, and a lot more powdery mildew
In August I started to get some mature cucumbers and a few beans and zucchini, but not much else. I upgraded the tomatoes from 5 to 7 gallon buckets and added cages in that process using 4 inch square wire fencing.

Garden status 2025-08-05: Now the cucumbers are finally taking up some space, so I'm attempting to stake them up higher.
I loved this string of curvy weird things.
The powdery mildew is now all over my cucumbers. I did some research and determined maybe I actually need to spray them with water more often and thoroughly, as explained in The Weird Powdery Mildew Fix That Actually Works. I had thought it was caused by moisture, and I needed to water from below, but I guess that was wrong. I also bought some potassium bicarbonate that I will try.
Finally able to add the worm compost to an actual vegetable garden, I am so happy! I usually try to take out a bunch of the worms before using it as compost, but there are so many every time. They don’t only migrate to the new trays as was the idea.
First official reasonable harvest, yay!
I don’t know why Ruffie, the snow dog, loves to bake in the heat.
