June gardening: Transplanted more squash, first few mature beans
In June the potatoes and butternut and acorn squash really started to take off. Everything else I transplanted barely grew at all. I started to consider if I should plant fresh seed to avoid transplant shock.
Strangely some of my squash started flowering before it even made many leaves. I wasn’t sure if this was normal or stress induced.

Garden status 2025-06-02: I built a small enclosure for the potatoes so I could try to add more soil as they grow and see if it causes them to make more potatoes.
I used the leftover geotextile and some catio fencing I will need later to build a fence to keep the dogs out. It doesn’t look great, but it should work for now.
Then I built a third garden bed and transplanted all my squash into it. I also planted five corns and some luffa.

Garden status 2025-06-26: Transplanted the squash into their final growing spots. Probably too tight, but we'll see.
Some beans started to grow enough to eat. Just a few though.

Garden status 2025-06-26: The pumpkins that I didn't intend to grow out and that seemed to be doing so poorly finally took off.

Garden status 2025-06-26: Cucumbers and zucchinis are growing but very slowly. I don't think there's enough light this high up the hill.
I was so happy to see these tiny little acorn squash growing!
I realized the beans are not getting any light, completely shaded by the large potato plants. Oh well, I’m not going to be able to do much about this. Hopefully they get some height soon!
