Another run, a rainy weekend
Now that I am trying to write journal entry type blogs again, I have to figure out again how I want to go about naming the dang entries. In my Google Docs based journal, I simply had date headers. Maybe I should name this page “2022-12-11”. I’ll think about it…
I decided to take off work a bit early Friday to go running. It gets dark around 5 p.m. now, and I’ve been struggling to run in the dark and cold around here. We were expected to get more than an inch of rain Saturday, so I didn’t want to put it off and risk going more than a week without running again. So I printed out one of my previously created routes and headed out via the scooter.
Pretty early into the run, I realized the Safeway parking lot I thought I was going to be running through was not on this route. I encountered instead a gated entrance to Holy Names University. The attendant said he wasn’t supposed to let the public through, but let me pass anyway when I explained I wanted to get to the trail on the other side. Woo!
As I made my way around, I realized the trail on my map was not there, and instead the parking lot and buildings along it were cut into a steep cliff. I kept going past some staff who didn’t look at me too closely, and ended up at a dead end of the parking lot. I checked my phone and verified I definitely passed the supposed trail, and then decided to climb the hill here since it was not as steep as the other part.
I kept going up the hill till I found the road the missing trail connected to. I finally warmed up enough to take off my wind breaker and stuffed it into my pack and continued on my run.
A bit later I was to make my way up another trail that wasn’t quite where the map showed. This one at least existed, and also had three deer on it making their way up the same stairs I was climbing.
This was another of those trails that are not officially maintained but are just spaces between properties.
The rest of the run was not too eventful, just a bit cold. I made it back to my scooter and was pleased to find nothing was stolen, including all the little lights I got for extra visibility and didn’t want to bother taking with me on the run.
I haven’t written yet on here about our new cat Nori. I’ll have more to say later, but for now, some pictures from this weekend:
