New apartment, already a farewell
After returning January 4 from visiting family in Milwaukee for Christmas, I moved to a new apartment to live with my friend Yida and two others. The first months have flown by, and already one roommate moved out to return to Taiwan. I figured it is about time I post a few photos, though of course improving everything is an eternal process.
A plant was mysteriously left on our porch on Haight Street about a year ago. Despite accidentally breaking half of it immediately, it outgrew two pots amazingly quickly. Then I moved it to Alan’s, where we broke it into smaller bits and had them growing all over. The mother bush succumbed to the elements, but she lives on now in the Sunset. Philipp is welcome to visit any time.
James starts writing the next chapter of his fantasy novel tonight. Beyond his flight to Taiwan, little is certain. What I do know is I enjoyed living with James this year, and just past the nervous fear lies beauty, fulfillment and life to be lived.
I made the wall out of Rmax Thermasheath-3 insulation boards, with which I am quite familiar from building yurts for Burning Man. They are not as sound proof as I would like despite also using some half inch sheets of generic sound deadener as well, but the ease of transport and price more than make up for it. Plus, this is lightyears ahead of stacking empty boxes on top of bookshelves to separate the room!

Four months ago, I took my friend Yida’s offer to replace their outgoing living room dweller. He left some shelves, and I went a little crazy building up more storage space backed by a foam wall. I forgot how nice it is to have a space big enough to hold all your belongings. Surely almost as nice as not having so many belongings you need a big space. Now that I am settled, I will try my very best to focus on one project at a time. Please let me mean that.
I am still mulling over ideas for constructing a second (or third, or fourth, for those looking closely) level to put more plants. I want to live in a jungle.
I have yet to make presentable my shelves of electrical components like LEDs, circuit boards and Arduino stuff.
I had some thin boards lying around, so I figured I might as well make a simple frame from which I could hang garments and on top of which I could store my massage table, fitness mat, ball and roller and random other stuff.

I’m not a big fan of HDR, but gave it another try for these two. I am not convinced it is better than the normal shot that also looks more real.

In a burst of excitement last summer, I found and bought a cheap, used, 10 foot flag on Ebay. My windows are way bigger now, so it felt right to revive my previous, much smaller flag in window concept. It filters the light and makes everything wonderful.
